Guitarist Ry Cooder brought together a group of Cuban music legends in 1996 to record the album Buena Vista Social Club in Havana. Internationally acclaimed, the music project inspired director Wim Wenders to document the club's work. The result is a spectacular compilation of both concert footage and the musicians' life stories. The film premiered at the 49th Berlinale on 17.02.1999 and received numerous film awards and an Oscar nomination.
