ARTE/ZDF | The sculptor Donatello is considered the forefather of the High Renaissance and a pioneer for greats such as Raffael and Michelangelo. He was already a legend in his lifetime. Nonetheless, his works are unknown to many outside the art world today. In a unique cooperation between museums in Florence, Berlin and London, the first monographic exhibition in four decades is dedicated to Donatello, on view in Berlin from September 2, 2022.
In line with the exhibition, ARTE is showing the documentary film “Donatello. Creators of the Renaissance". With his knowledge of proportion and perspective, Donatello revolutionized the visual perception of space in relief - a milestone in art history on the way to the Renaissance. The film also tells of his relationship with his patron Cosimo de' Medici and his friendship with the architect Filippo Brunelleschi.
The film celebrates its world premiere in the summer cinema at the Kulturforum directly in front of the picture gallery.
