Leipzig, 1989: twelve-year-old Fritzi lovingly looks after little Sputnik. He is the dog of her best friend Sophie, who has gone to Hungary with her mother for the summer vacation. But Sophie doesn't return to class when school starts. Like many others, she has fled to the West. Fritzi bravely sets off in search of her friend.
