Long forgotten in a Louisiana swampland psychiatric ward, young Mona Lisa awakens one blood moon night from years of lethargy. Thanks to her mysterious ability to control the will of other people, she escapes the asylum and finds herself on the streets of New Orleans. There she meets the stripper Bonnie, who recognises Mona Lisa's gift and takes her in. While Bonnie exploits the shy woman's powers for joint robberies, a tender friendship develops between Mona Lisa and Bonnie's ten-year-old son Charlie.
