Joe Gillis, a screenwriter who is as unsuccessful as he is penniless, flees from his creditors and ends up at the estate of aging silent film diva Norma Desmond. Norma has never stopped dreaming of a comeback and persuades him to help her write a screenplay in exchange for taking him in. But as their collaboration continues, she proves to be increasingly possessive.
