Lidia grows up in 1970s Oregon in an environment marked by violence and alcohol. A talented swimmer, she seeks refuge in the water, but pain and self-destruction accompany her on land as well. It is only through writing that she begins to come to terms with her own story and transform her experiences of hurt and loss into language.
