In 1932, Bauhaus photographer Grete Stern met the Argentine Horacio Coppola in Berlin; after the Bauhaus closed, she followed him to Buenos Aires. Together, they pioneered modern photography in Argentina. Their works document both the dynamic metropolis and the lived experiences of indigenous communities. Stern became particularly well-known for her surreal photomontages, in which she critically examined the role models and lived realities of women.
