In GAVAGAI, the film adaptation of an ancient tragedy becomes a contemporary drama set between Senegal and Germany. The Berlin premiere of the film will be followed by a discussion with director Ulrich Köhler, lead actors Maren Eggert and Jean-Christophe Folly, and other guests.

About

A French director is filming in Senegal, radically reinterpreting the myth of Medea. Her Medea is enslaved by an African tribe. Jason, heir to the throne and father of her children, casts her out. The roles are played by Maja and Nourou, who are having an affair off set. When the film premieres in Berlin, their roles are reversed: art and life begin to merge, and positions of power shift.
