Not for the first time, brothers Derek and Ethan have spent the night in the car full of worry. They have driven the old familiar places to finally pick up their drug-addicted mother from the street. Despite their addiction, the three share a kind of everyday life together. Against the backdrop of the opioid crisis and abusive prescription practices in the US, Jamie Sisley tells of the individual impact of a societal tragedy and takes a look at a complicated web of relationships that is as unsparing as it is tender.
With the Berlinale Spotlight: Generation Cinema Vision 14plus, the Berlinale section Generation together with AG Kino Gilde e.V. is committed to strengthening innovative cinema for young people. Since 2020, an independent jury of cinema owners has awarded an outstanding feature film from the Generation 14plus competition during the festival: The two previous winning films will now be made accessible to a wider audience and sent on a nationwide cinema tour. The German cinema premiere of last year's award-winning film Stay Awake will be the opening event.
