WAS HABEN WIR GELACHT tells the story of 1990s entertainment television from a woman’s perspective for the first time. Maren Kroymann, Hella von Sinnen, Bettina Böttinger, Gaby Köster, and Esther Schweins look back on their work and a time when women on television were primarily seen as mere accessories, used as punchlines, and when female humor was considered a ratings killer. An entire generation was thus socialized primarily by male entertainers – through “Wetten, dass…?”, the “Harald Schmidt Show,” and later “TV total.” How did this era shape us? And what does being funny have to do with power and equality?
We’re screening the film as a preview as part of Mongay, followed by a discussion with directors Eva Müller and Isabel Schneider, as well as other members of the film crew.
