“Heart of Light—Eleven Songs for Fiji” tells the story of Fiji and its people, its natural environment, and everyday life on the islands. Cynthia Beatt weaves together her own memories of Fiji and the country’s history with the present-day reality on the islands. She paints a picture of a diverse region shaped by various historical eras and shows how the colonial period and its consequences continue to shape the landscape and society to this day. With striking and atmospheric imagery (Jenny Lou Ziegel), Cynthia Beatt stages a contemplative cinematic journey through the Fijian archipelago.
