WWolfgang Schnur, a lawyer for politically persecuted people in the GDR and at the same time a Stasi employee, betrayed all his clients to the Ministry for State Security. He did not even shy away from betraying his best friends and his partner. In the GDR, he was highly regarded by both the government and the opposition, became chairman of Demokratischer Aufbruch (Democratic Awakening) in 1989, and almost became the first freely elected prime minister of the GDR. But a week before the elections, his double life became public.
Theater, film, and television actors Max Urlacher and Uli Pleßmann perform and read Wolfgang Schnur's last and only interview, which he gave to journalist Alexander Kobylinski before his death. The original text has not been edited, only condensed—a documentary reading of a life confession about morality and betrayal.
The performance will be followed by a discussion with author and director Prof. Jürgen Haase.
An event organized by the Wilhelm Fraenger Institute, Prof. Jürgen Haase, in cooperation with the Federal Foundation for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship
