TRACE OF STONES is perhaps the best-known film to have been banned in the GDR. After its premiere was deliberately disrupted, the film disappeared into the archives and was not screened again until 1989. We commemorate the memorable premiere exactly 60 years ago on June 30, 1966, at the Kino International, where the SED’s exercise of power was demonstrated in a striking manner. A highly topical film and an evening that asks what happens when politics refuses to acknowledge reality.

With an introduction and a subsequent film discussion featuring actor Hermann Beyer, actress Jutta Hoffmann, film historian Andreas Kötzing (Hannah Arendt Institute Dresden), and Stefanie Eckert (Board Member of the DEFA Foundation), moderated by Peter Badel (DEFA, Academy of Arts).
