Special Screening: Vom Bauhaus nach Argentinien
In the presence of director Anne Berrini and curator Kristin Bartels
Accompanying the exhibition “New Woman, New Vision – The Bauhaus Women Photographers” by the Bauhaus Archive Berlin, we are screening the documentary VOM BAUHAUS NACH ARGENTINIEN about Grete Stern and Horacio Coppola. Both studied at the Bauhaus and, after emigrating, shaped modern photography in Argentina with iconic images of Buenos Aires and poetic, provocative works exploring the female psyche and the lives of the indigenous population. Director Anne Berrini, who grew up in Dessau, follows in their footsteps from Germany to Argentina and New York. In particular, the decades-long correspondence between Grete Stern and Ellen Auerbach offers insights into friendship, emigration, and artistic self-assertion.
Following the screening, there will be a discussion with director Anne Berrini and curator Kristin Bartels.
The exhibition at the nearby Museum of Photography, which also features photographs by Grete Stern, will be open for the last time on Sunday, October 4.
