In 1532, the Dutch artist Maarten van Heemskerck embarked on a journey to Rome. He was the first artist to draw the Roman Forum, the Imperial Forums and thermal baths, the Colosseum and the monuments on the Palatine Hill and the Quirinal. A unique collection of over 170 drawings from his five-year stay in the Eternal City has been preserved in the Kupferstichkabinett. This outstanding collection will now - 450 years after the artist's death - be on display in its entirety for the first time.
