With YES, Nadav Lapid once again examines his homeland Israel, following his Golden Bear-winning film SYNONYMES. YES was made after October 7, 2023, and is clearly influenced by the events of the following months. It reflects the pain felt over those killed by Hamas, as well as the anger over the blind nationalism that has characterized Israeli society since then and the despair over Israel's military actions in Gaza. Wrapped in a satire that leaves you barely time to breathe between shrill images and quiet moments, YES is a provocative, aesthetically innovative film that invites debate.
