With SMALLTOWN GIRL, director Hille Norden establishes herself as a rising star in the world of young German cinema. With its radical stylistic approach, her autobiographical film links the realities of young people's lives today with timeless questions about trauma that echo through the generations. Her film creates spaces for remembrance that only great cinema can achieve with such unflinching honesty and sensitive precision. A thrilling cinematic journey that dares to go where it hurts.

About

Extravagant outfits, endless cigarettes, a different one-night stand every night: Nore's reputation precedes her. Jonna knows her from back when everyone avoided her because of it, including Jonna herself. When Nore moves in with Jonna, two worlds collide and quickly blur together. Until Jonna realizes that Nore's excesses mask repressed traumas. Together, they venture into Nore's childhood and find a language for the pain that awaits them there.
