Director Jan-Christoph Gockel draws on a wealth of ideas and styles to interweave Friedrich Schiller’s _Wallenstein _trilogy with the artistic team’s two-year research project on former mercenaries in the present day. The production premiered on October 4, 2025, at the Munich Kammerspiele and will be presented as one of the 10 most notable productions of the season at the Theatertreffen in Berlin. 3sat will broadcast the spectacular, multi-hour performance as a delayed livestream on delphi LUX. The total duration is approximately 5,25 hours, including three separate, short breaks.

About

During the Thirty Years' War, Wallenstein led numerous mercenary armies as commander-in-chief. When he sought political power, the emperor had him assassinated. In 2023, Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of the Wagner mercenary group, set out with his troops on a march toward Moscow. The uprising failed, and a plane carrying Prigozhin crashed shortly thereafter. Who are the soldiers, merchants, and children in the entourage—then and now? How do we approach war as a way of life?
